The Opportunity

The UX team at Root is a tight knit, collaborative group with a mission to deliver innovation and customer value. This team sits within the Product & Marketing organization and works very closely with product managers, engineers, and product executives to plan and deliver new product features and experiments.

The unique opportunity of this role is to work closely with product managers and product leadership to help drive strategic product investments. It’s hard to build great products in auto insurance - take a look at your own company’s app and you’ll see for yourself. When was the last time you thought about your insurance company? To what extent do you expect or want to be delighted when you open your insurance app to pay your bill, or access your insurance card?

These are the types of questions we are wrestling with. You will be tasked with co-creating a research roadmap with product managers and working with designers and stakeholders to deliver projects that have the highest impact. This role will be tasked with advocating for customer value by making customer’s lives, needs, and stories compelling and real to product leadership. You will succeed if you are able to write, tell great stories, develop relationships with stakeholders, and learn creative ways to measure what matters the most but is the hardest to quantity - meeting customer needs.

Root is a “work where it works best” company. Meaning we will support you working in whatever location that works best for you across the US. We will continue to have our headquarters in Columbus to give more flexibility and more choice about how we live and work.

Salary Range: $109,000- $130,000 (Bonus Eligible)

How you will make an impact:

Work with product managers, engineering managers, and product leadership to manage a research roadmap and backlog
Own and develop a research roadmap
Develop and refine customer personas, covering their journey through Root and key needs/pain points
Execute and help refine Root’s Voice of the Customer program, by gathering inputs from teams and research to develop a quarterly report on customer health and other key metrics.

What you will need to succeed

2-5 years of applied research experience
Professionally trained in qualitative research methodologies
Highly skilled interviewer
Basic proficiency in quantitative methodologies

Excellent writer, excellent attention to detail
Ability to confidently lead and facilitate meetings and workshops
Strong creative & design instincts

  • Advanced degree with psychology, human factors, or HCI concentration
