BILL is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to build and scale our Spend and Expense software solutions. If you are passionate about building great products, excited about solving real-world customer issues, enjoy mentoring all types of engineers, and are interested in working on challenging problems on a daily basis, this is the job for you!

This individual will be a member of the Application and Company Management team - Working Capital, and will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable products for the BILL’s Spend and Expense area. Proven experience in leading, scoping, designing and implementing end-to-end software solutions is a must.

Card Servicing Team:

The Card Servicing Team manages and optimizes card-related services within the Spend and Expense platform. Their responsibilities include enhancing payment experiences, managing delinquency, improving bank accounts, and working on billing cycles. They collaborate with various teams to ensure seamless communication and use data-driven insights to guide their design decisions. Additionally, they focus on user-centric design and oversee the entire design process from research to implementation.

We’d love to chat if you have:

  • 8+ years of software development or 6+ years of experience with masters in relevant field
  • Experience working on large scale, complex applications using Java or Elixir, AWS and modern JS frameworks
  • Experience working with REST API development
  • Familiarity with databases (ElasticSearch, MySQL, Oracle or any Cloud DB)
  • Expertise with using AWS services to build microservices
  • Excellent teamwork and communication
  • Ability to gain alignment across cross-functional boundaries
  • Ability to challenge the norm and develop microservices from a monolith
  • Passion for great products and building great experiences, proven ability to take the product through all stages of development from concept to launch at scale
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field

Nice to Have:

  • Expertise with using AWS to build services
  • Test Driven Development (TDD) methodology, functional programming style. Playwright or Cypress testing experience a bonus.
  • Experience with dev tools like Splunk, Datadog, Mixpanel, LaunchDarkly et

Our ranges for each role and job level are based on a variety of factors including candidate experience, expertise, and geographic location and may vary from the amounts listed below. The role is also eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes: medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, flexible spending & health savings account, paid holidays, paid time off, and other company benefits. Zone 1- San Francisco Bay Area CA (includes HQ), New York City, Seattle
$175,000$210,000 USD
Zone 2- CA (Non San Francisco Bay Area), Austin TX, Massachusetts
$157,500$189,000 USD
Zone 3 -Utah (includes Utah office), Houston TX (office), Florida, North Carolina
$148,800$178,500 USD
