The Opportunity
We are looking for an Engineering Manager II to lead our Native Mobile Applications team at Root. In this pivotal role, you'll lead a dedicated team of 4-5 software engineers focused on the maintenance and innovation of our cutting edge trip-tracking SDK as well as the foundational patterns of our iOS and Android applications. Your leadership will directly influence the evolution and performance of Root's mobile offerings, playing a key role in our ongoing success.

Salary Range: $185,000 - $210,000 (Bonus and LTI Eligible)
How You Will Make an Impact
Partner with Product, Data Science, Analytics, and experts in the Insurance group to set the strategy for the quarters to come
Effectively manage the individuals on your team to ensure they are performing well in their role and as members of the team
Use an appropriate mixture of coaching, directive feedback, and delegation to achieve business, team and individual goals
Identify gaps in the team and develop plans to address those gaps via individual development, hiring, or partnership
Engage in regular and productive performance conversations as a part of 1:1s and dedicated reviews
Continuously evaluate the performance and effectiveness of your team’s process in order to improve things over time
Proactively dive into code, design reviews, and technical challenges alongside your team when necessary, demonstrating a hands-on approach to problem-solving and leading by example to ensure high-quality software development and timely project delivery
Work closely with the Engineering Manager team to improve the effectiveness of the Engineering org as a whole
What You Will Need to Succeed
7+ years in software engineering with a focus on iOS and Android native application development
2+ years as a people manager on software teams
Experience with Swift or Java/ Kotlin, and mobile development frameworks essential for iOS and Android app development
App development lifecycle including Play/App Store compliance policies and submissions requirements
Familiarity with React Native
Proven leadership of projects involving multiple teams across functional domains
Excellent communication skills both with engineering colleagues and senior business leaders
