Halo is a groundbreaking device that allows you to communicate without speaking. It was created with one mission: to pioneer a whole new era of communication.

Halo unlocks ‘superhuman’ like capabilities by using advanced Generative AI and a non-invasive neural interface that translates bioelectrical signals from your brain into words, which can be spoken in your own voice or displayed as text. With plans to spin off from Unbabel at the end of 2024, it is set to take on a life of its own with a mission to augment human capabilities and enable us to communicate beyond any limits we’ve ever known.

Halo’s initial focus will be on supporting people with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). The challenge will be to give a voice to those who can’t speak, such as patients with ALS and those who suffer from ‘locked-in’ syndrome. As CEO, you will witness firsthand the transformative impact Halo has on patients and their families, leading a team in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment where the potential to make a meaningful difference is enormous.

Halo has already garnered significant attention globally, showcased at top tier events including Web Summit and the United Nations AI for Good Global Summit, where a partnership with OpenAI was unveiled.

We’re in the product discovery phase, presenting a rare and exciting opportunity to join at a pivotal moment. Beyond medical applications, in the not-so-distant future, we see Halo as a game changing tool for human augmentation and pushing the boundaries of communication in ways we’ve never seen before. What’s the opportunity about?

As the CEO of Halo, you will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, vision, and leadership of the company. You will take the helm at a pivotal moment, steering the company's strategic direction and vision as it spins off from Unbabel. You will be passionate and a true partner to our VP of Product Innovation, inspiring our team of brilliant engineers, to take this vision and lead our growth into something truly extraordinary.

You will lead the charge in shaping the future of Halo, where hardware and software intersect. The ideal candidate will be someone who dreams big, is passionately invested in solving the problem at hand, and cares so deeply about the mission that their dedication stands out. You will spearhead the development and execution of the company’s mission to augment communication for ALS patients using AI, ensuring that Halo remains at the forefront of innovation and impact.

You will bring strong entrepreneurial instincts, a willingness to take risks, and the ability to confidently engage with investors, ensuring that Halo’s vision is realized on a global scale.

You will work closely with key stakeholders, partners, and investors to drive growth and lead the company through its next phase of development, including building a scalable business model, securing funding, and expanding the product's reach.

Your leadership will be instrumental in overcoming the challenges of a startup environment, and positioning Halo as a leader in AI-powered healthcare solutions. Beyond that, you’ll set the stage for Halo to evolve into a game-changing tool for human augmentation, poised to revolutionize communication far beyond healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Define and communicate Halo’s goals and mission, ensuring the company stays focused on its initial purpose to help ALS patients through AI.
• Build and guide a talented team, creating a positive, collaborative work environment where people feel motivated and supported.
• Keep investors, partners, employees, and the ALS community informed and aligned with Halo’s goals.
• Create and maintain strategic relationships with other companies and organizations (like OpenAI) to grow Halo’s capabilities and reach.
• Lead efforts to raise money for Halo’s growth and make sure the company’s finances are healthy.
• Navigate the uncertainties of a startup environment, making data-driven decisions to mitigate risk while maximizing growth potential.
• Represent Halo at important events, conferences, and meetings, promoting the company’s mission and values.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior leadership role, ideally within a tech, AI, or healthcare environment, with the ability to inspire and lead teams in fast-paced, high-growth organizations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a company through the early stages of growth, including product discovery, market expansion, and scaling.
• Familiarity with healthcare technologies, particularly AI-driven solutions, and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the healthcare industry.
• Ability to plan and execute long-term goals, turning ideas into actionable plans that benefit the company and its mission.
• Track record of successfully raising capital and building relationships with investors and strategic partners.
• Strong business acumen and experience in overseeing operational aspects of a company, including product development, financial management, and team leadership.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and align stakeholders across all levels—investors, partners, team members, and customers.
• Comfortable with change and able to adapt to new challenges, especially in a fast-paced startup.
• A strong commitment to improving the lives of ALS patients and their families through cutting-edge AI solutions.
